mPOS

What is an mPOS?

mPOS = m - POS
noun

Mobile point of sale, or mPOS, is a portable and wireless payment processing solution that enables businesses to accept payments and conduct transactions, with specialized software and hardware to process payments. mPOS devices can accept a variety of payment methods, including credit cards, debit cards, digital wallets (e.g., Apple Pay, Google Wallet) and even altenative payment methods. The use of mobile devices allows businesses to conduct transactions on the go, whether at a customer's location, curbside, pop-up events or within a physical store.

How does an mPOS work?

mPOS works through a mobile device that's equipped with both a card reader and payment processing software.

The business owner has the option to link the mobile device with the card reader, enabling clients to complete a multitude of electronic payments. The mPOS system ensures secure processing of the transaction, sending the payment details to the payment processor for approval. Once completed, customers receive a receipt while merchants receive the payment. This allows businesses to accept payments anywhere, extending the convenience of transactions beyond conventional checkout locations.
