What is Common Criteria (CC)?

noun
The Common Criteria are a set of global standards and criteria that are used to assess information security products or systems.
How does CC work?
If a vendor’s product falls into one of the Common Criteria categories, they’ll need to complete a security target (ST) description, which includes a description of the product’s security features, as well as an assessment of potential security risks.
They’ll also need to complete the vendor’s self-assessment, which outlines how the product aligns with the specific Evaluation Assurance Level (EAL) and Protection Profile (PP) the vendor wants to be tested against.
