Card Verification Value (CVV)

What is  Card Verification Value (CVV)?

c - v - v card ver-i-fi-ca-tion val-ue
noun

Card Verification Value (CVV) is a security code consisting of three or four digits, typically required during online purchases when the physical card is not presented (referred to as a card-not-present transaction). For Visa and Mastercard debit or credit cards, the CVV is located on the back, while American Express cards display it on the front. CVV plays a crucial role in fraud prevention by confirming the cardholder's possession of the physical card. It's important to distinguish CVV (also known as CSC or CVV2) from the card's four-digit PIN (Personal Identification Number) and never share CVV information for online transactions.
