An Application Programming Interface (API) is a communication protocol that two computers use to perform operations on the Internet.

How does API work?

An application (like a website or mobile app) calls an API for a collection of data to view for consumption by the end user. The call is made through the API that goes to the web site to get the data you want, which is then populated in the UI (User Interface).
