Founded in 1877, Wolverhampton Wanderers FC (aka, The Wolves) is one of England’s oldest football clubs. As part of its growth, the club underwent an extensive, multi-million pound redevelopment to enlarge stadium capacity and enhance its overall facilities. Part of this reinvention included modernizing the ticketing facilities and club shop to accommodate an ever-increasing number of fans seeking tickets and merchandise.
Verifone was tasked to help improve the service and speed of transactions for fans coming through the gate; it was essential that payments could be processed both securely and quickly in order to maximize revenue.
The online ticketing and call centre operations now utilise Verifone’s PaaS (Payments as a Service) platform, which enables the club to accept, authorise, and settle card payments safely and directly, while also reducing the scope of their PCI DSS environment.
The walk-up ticketing offices and club shop have been equipped with Verifone PIN pads, all completely integrated with the club’s existing till system, which provide rich functionality to the point of sale for card payments.
Due to the fact that the Wolves were the first customer to adopt PaaS, the solution’s interface was written and tailored specifically for the club. To highlight the efficiency of the solution, the roll-out was completed just three months after the contract was signed.
The Verifone solution has increased the speed of processing payments, which is ideal for both fans and staff alike. Additionally, the Wolves’ implementation illustrates how PaaS can streamline a multichannel payments environment, removing the hassle of card payments for the merchant.
